Saturday March 11th @ 7:30pm
All Saints Church,
The Dalesmen Male Voice Choir
On Saturday 11 March, prepare to be swept along on a wave of musical joy as we present to you the ever-popular Dalesmen. Formed in 1987 from the white dust of a limestone quarry that is Middleton by Wirksworth, the Dalesmen have grown from a few like-minded friends to a near 70 strong choir. Their original aims of bringing the enjoyment of choral music to the wider public and of supporting charitable institutions are still very much what the choir is about. Dressed in their distinctive blue blazers and grey trousers, the men pull hard at the heartstrings of all lovers of music sung by male voices. Led by Music Director Paul Marshall and accompanied by Paul Templeman, the choir promises an evening of stirring melodies and rousing harmonies!
Singing alongside our beloved Dalesmen, prepare to be amazed by our very own local lass, Karen England. Born in Duffield, Derbyshire, Karen gained a music degree from Leeds University followed by a Post Graduate at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before beginning her career as a professional Opera Singer. Starting at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Karen has performed many roles including Carmen for Opera Ireland and Wellgunde in Wagner’s Das Rheingold under Sir Simon Rattle in the BBC Proms, amongst many other solo performances worldwide. In 2001 she and her singing partner, Rebecca Knight, signed to Sony Records and became International Opera stars, selling over a million records with their first album and touring it around the world. They have performing with many of the World’s leading orchestra’s, for the Queen on several occasions, were the first classical act to headline at the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas, and performed alongside Placido Domingo at the LA Opera. To date they have released 3 albums, the last, an album of British Song under Warner Classics. Karen splits her time now performing with OperaBabes, doing solo performances, teaching and looking after her 2 young girls Freya and Poppy.
